Intake runner codes when a manifold has already been replaced

Fault-code directory · ECU and electrical assessment

A new intake manifold does not rule out an intake-runner problem. The actuator, wiring, vacuum supply where fitted and controller command still need to agree with the replacement assembly. Start with the exact code and the reason the original manifold was changed.

Codes covered

P2004–P2007 identify reported runner positions that are stuck open or closed on the relevant bank. P2008–P2013 describe control-circuit conditions for the two banks. A position complaint and a circuit complaint need different evidence, even if both mention the same manifold.

Evidence that helps narrow the fault

  • Confirm the manifold and actuator specification against the vehicle. Check whether the replacement includes all required components and whether any old actuator or linkage was reused.
  • Observe commanded operation alongside actual movement using the approved test procedure. Keep hands clear of moving linkages and do not force a powered actuator.
  • Inspect plugs and hose routing after the repair. Where setup or learning is required, record whether it completed and retain the full failure message if it did not.

Choosing the next repair step

If the mechanism reaches its expected positions but the ECU still reports a circuit fault, the electrical path needs attention. If the circuit behaves correctly but the mechanism binds or has restricted travel, controller replacement will not address that. Ask for a report showing which part of the chain failed the test.

Can adaptation fix every runner warning after replacement?

No. Adaptation may be necessary for a compatible, correctly installed part, but it cannot repair a disconnected wire, a mismatched component or a jammed mechanism.

Talk through the fault with AXION

Send the make, model, year, full scan report and a short description of when the fault happens. Include recent repairs or programming attempts. If you do not have a scan, describe the symptoms in your own words.

Workshop assessments are arranged by appointment in Didcot, Oxfordshire. UK-wide postal module testing and remote support are available for suitable work after compatibility and scope are agreed. Please contact us before removing or posting a module.
