Key Remote Works Only Very Close to the Vehicle

Reduced remote range can concern the key, reception conditions or the vehicle. Compare the behaviour with a second authorised key if one is available, using ordinary operation rather than repeatedly pressing buttons from many locations.

Record a fair comparison

State whether the problem occurs everywhere or at one parking place, and whether it began after a key battery change or vehicle repair. Follow the key’s specified battery and fitting instructions. A battery that fits physically is not enough to establish it is the correct type or installed properly.

Do not assume that remote locking range proves anything about engine-start authorisation; these functions may use different mechanisms. If both keys behave similarly only at one location, tell the workshop that clearly. Provide vehicle and key details before ordering parts. The assessment should distinguish the user’s remote complaint from an immobiliser issue and explain which checks justify any receiver, key or control-module work.
