Key Not Detected Warning Appears with the Key Inside

A key inside the cabin is not sufficient evidence that the vehicle is receiving and accepting its signal. The exact message, key position and behaviour of a second authorised key can help define the complaint.

Use the owner’s normal fallback instructions

Consult the vehicle manual for any designated backup recognition position and follow it exactly. Record whether that method works. Mention a recently changed key battery, liquid damage or other objects stored alongside the key.

Do not open vehicle security modules or use an online bypass procedure. If the vehicle cannot be started or secured, arrange appropriate assistance. For an enquiry, provide the vehicle identity, number of available keys and whether the warning is intermittent or constant. Bring ownership or garage-authorisation evidence when requested. A technician should separate key condition, reception and vehicle-side recognition before deciding whether programming or hardware assessment is required.
