Reading a controller’s identification is one successful operation; it does not guarantee support for every diagnostic request. A live-data failure may concern the selected session, tool coverage, operating state or a vehicle fault.

Record which identification details were read, which data request failed and the wording of any error. Include the tool version and selected vehicle. “No communication” is too broad if some requests consistently succeed.
A workshop should consult supported functions and relevant access requirements before condemning hardware. Do not repeatedly reset or reprogramme a functioning controller to unlock a menu. If a second supported tool produces a different result, preserve both reports. State whether the vehicle has a related operating symptom or whether the concern is limited to diagnostic access. Those distinctions help separate a tool or session issue from a fault requiring electrical investigation or module assessment.

Browse all fault guides or use the vehicle module finder to prepare your enquiry. Include the vehicle, symptoms, complete fault codes and any previous test results. Assessment scope and compatibility must be confirmed before booking or sending a unit.
