A new blank ECU and a working controller needing an update are different starting points. Nissan’s technical portal separates blank-controller resources from reprogramming resources. Selecting a route from the vehicle model alone can therefore miss an important part of the job.
Tell the workshop what is fitted now
Record whether the original ECU communicates and whether the replacement has already been installed. Provide both part numbers, the engine and transmission details and the full scan. Keep any supplier description, but do not treat it as a confirmed compatibility assessment.
An apparently unused controller may still need configuration and the applicable installation procedures. A used donor brings a different history. Ask what the proposed programming operation will establish and which vehicle-side checks remain necessary.
Keep the original information available
Do not discard the old ECU after the new one first powers up. Its label, identification and any available original data may help resolve later questions about the vehicle specification. Preserve errors from unsuccessful attempts rather than overwriting the history with another speculative file.
