P0110 to P0114 describe intake-air temperature circuit conditions. In this family the entries distinguish a circuit fault, an operating-range issue, low input, high input and an intermittent signal. A high electrical input does not simply mean that the intake air is dangerously hot.
Codes covered: P0110, P0111, P0112, P0113 and P0114. HELLA OBD code reference.
Did it begin after something was disturbed?
Tell the workshop about air-filter work, intake removal, cleaning or a recent sensor replacement. A fault appearing immediately after work provides useful context, but it does not prove who or what caused it. Record the sequence and avoid clearing the evidence before it is saved.
Ross-Tech’s P0113 entry lists supply protection, wiring/connectors and the temperature sensor as investigation points. The VAG component designation in that reference is G42. P0113 reference.
Useful diagnostic comparisons
- The intake reading before starting, with the engine fully cold.
- Other temperature values and the outside conditions at that time.
- Any abrupt change in the recorded signal rather than a gradual temperature change.
- The exact component part number, especially where the temperature element shares a housing with another sensor.
The correct wiring diagram and signal specification are essential. A technician can then distinguish a sensor problem from a connection or controller-input problem without guessing from an extreme displayed temperature alone.
