If a vehicle starts briefly then stops, or will not start after an ECU change, save a complete scan before trying another replacement. An immobiliser-related report needs the vehicle’s exact identity, repair history and module data.
What P1570 / 17978 means in this context
Ross-Tech documents 17978 / P1570 / 005488 as an engine-start authorisation block by the immobiliser on relevant VAG systems. Possible diagnostic areas include matching between the key, immobiliser and engine controller, as well as the controller’s supply. This manufacturer-specific interpretation should not be transferred automatically to another make.

What changed before the fault?
Tell us if the vehicle previously ran with the original ECU, whether keys were replaced or lost, and whether the instrument cluster, body/security module or engine controller has been changed. Keep photographs of the original and donor labels. A matching connector or similar-looking part number does not establish that a replacement is ready to start the vehicle.

- Original and replacement module identification.
- Details of work already attempted and the available original data.

Programming, adaptation and cloning
These are different processes. A vehicle may need an approved matching or adaptation procedure, software programming or an assessment of whether original data can be transferred. The available route depends on the system and the evidence. Repeatedly changing modules without preserving the original information can make the investigation harder.
