Wrong file written to a Peugeot BSI and what to preserve

After an incorrect write, the most useful first step is to preserve the evidence. Do not overwrite the remaining files or repeatedly try unrelated data in the hope that one version will restore every function.

The published Peugeot example

In an MHH Auto discussion, a contributor reported writing dashboard EEPROM data into a 2010 Peugeot 5008 BSI without first retaining the BSI read. The author later reported that the car started but several body functions still did not work correctly. This is a third-party account of a data problem, not a verified AXION recovery or a downloadable repair recipe. Read the original BSI discussion.

A start is only one part of the result

The account illustrates why a recovery enquiry should describe all affected functions. Engine starting, body configuration and individual equipment operation are separate observations. It does not establish that another vehicle needs the same file, coding changes or memory work. The remaining recoverable information must be assessed on the actual module.

Preserve the job record

  • Keep the original module and donor, if present, clearly identified.
  • Keep every existing read and write file unchanged, with a note of which unit it came from.
  • Record the tool and software version, operation sequence and failure messages.
  • Provide both module-label photographs and the scan reports available before and after the work.
  • State honestly if there was no original backup or if a file came from a different vehicle.

Start by telling AXION what evidence exists; we can agree an appropriate transfer method if files are needed. Do not publish security information, identification data or complete module files in a public enquiry. Recovery cannot be guaranteed from a file name or file size alone. We will discuss the scope after reviewing the module identity and the work history.

AXION supports owners and independent garages with automotive module data-recovery enquiries. Send your existing report through our repair enquiry form, or call 07440 134303. We will confirm whether the vehicle is needed at our Didcot workshop or whether a removed module is suitable for UK postal assessment.
