P164B concerns an oil-pressure switch malfunction in Ross-Tech’s VAG reference. It includes both a switch problem and actual low oil pressure as possibilities. An electrical interpretation must not be used to dismiss a potentially serious lubrication warning.
Follow the stop warning first
If the vehicle instructs you to stop because of oil pressure, stop safely and obtain assistance. Do not continue running it to collect a longer symptom record. A normal oil level alone does not establish that operating pressure meets specification.
For the workshop, record the engine code, exact warning and when it occurred. Include oil-service history, fitted filter information and any mechanical test report already available.
Relate the switch to a verified pressure result
The assessment should distinguish the switch’s electrical indication from an appropriate pressure measurement. Ross-Tech also references updated switch information for particular applications, which requires a vehicle match before parts are selected.
AXION can review the electrical side when the relevant engine checks have been made. An ECU, wiring or switch repair proposal should not replace verification of lubrication where low pressure remains possible. Keep the measured conditions and results with the job record so the final decision is based on evidence rather than a warning lamp temporarily going out.
Arrange an assessment
For ECU testing and repair, send the vehicle details and fault report to AXION. We support enquiries from drivers and garages. Workshop, postal and remote options depend on the job and are confirmed before booking.
