A mismatch between the selected position and dashboard display needs prompt assessment. Do not assume the vehicle is securely in Park from the lever position alone. Follow the handbook’s parking precautions and arrange assistance if selection is uncertain.
Record the exact mismatch
Which position is selected and what does the display show? Does the vehicle recognise Neutral for starting? Include any warning, recent selector work or liquid spill. Do not repeatedly move the selector to force a response when the vehicle’s movement is unpredictable.
Identify the fitted transmission
The selector, control arrangement and required procedures vary by gearbox and vehicle. Keep the transmission identification and full diagnostic report. A position-related code does not establish that the TCU is the failed component; the request, recognition and associated circuit need assessment.
Contact AXION with the vehicle details and the observed positions. Agree whether the complete vehicle is required before sending a controller. If recovery is needed, the operator must follow the vehicle’s correct instructions. A cleared warning is not enough: the completed repair needs confirmation that selection and the applicable safety functions operate correctly.
