Short journeys can be a poor basis for comparing fuel use with a previous longer route. Cold starts, cabin heating and the time spent stationary change the operating conditions. A higher displayed figure alone does not identify an electrical defect.
Make the records comparable
Keep journey distance, outside temperature, starting battery indication and climate settings. For a plug-in model, state whether charging frequency has changed. Distinguish a dashboard trip average from fuel measured across several refills, and avoid comparing different measurement methods as if they were identical.
If consumption increases alongside rough running, warnings or a clear performance change, include those symptoms in the enquiry. Check routine maintenance and tyre issues through the appropriate professionals. The workshop can then decide whether an engine, hybrid-control or battery investigation is justified. Do not deliberately exhaust the battery or disable normal heating and safety functions merely to reproduce an earlier economy figure.
