A temperature warning during towing must be handled according to the vehicle’s instructions. Towing load, road gradient, speed and conditions matter, but a demanding journey does not make a warning something to ignore or clear repeatedly.
Keep the operating details
Record the trailer and approximate load, route conditions, outside temperature and warning sequence. Include recent transmission service or cooling work. Do not assume that a sensor fault caused the message simply because the gearbox operated normally before towing.
Allow the workshop to distinguish actual operating temperature from a measurement or control issue using the correct procedures. Check the vehicle and trailer are being used within applicable specifications. If drive quality changes, leakage appears or the manual requires stopping, arrange assistance. An enquiry should include the complete scan and circumstances, not just a request for TCU repair. The relevant verification may need to consider the load conditions that were absent during an ordinary short workshop test.
