A transmission that works during a journey but faults after a short hot stop presents a distinct timing pattern. State the length of the stop and whether the problem appears at restart, first engagement or the first shift.
Arrange a representative assessment
Tell the workshop whether cooling completely restores operation. Include journey length, ambient conditions and any warning messages. A cold arrival followed by a short drive may not reproduce the complaint, so agree a suitable observation plan.
Do not repeatedly restart or force engagement when the vehicle is showing a serious warning. The technician should consider electrical, control and mechanical evidence under the relevant conditions rather than assuming that heat identifies one component. Preserve the first scan and prior repair records. Ask which tests were actually performed hot and what remained unverified. A successful cold bench test of a removed controller has limits if the original failure occurs only after a particular vehicle operating sequence.
