Volvo Plug and Charge stops working after a workshop visit

If a Volvo still charges when a session is started manually but no longer starts automatically through Plug & Charge, describe that distinction. It helps separate a charging authorisation issue from an electrical failure.

A manufacturer-documented reason to check activation

Volvo explains that workshop work can remove a Plug & Charge certificate and activation may then need to be completed again. The feature also depends on a supported vehicle, compatible charging point and suitable charging contract. Availability varies by model year, so check Volvo’s current supported-vehicle list for your car.

This does not mean a workshop visit has damaged the onboard charger. Nor does it mean that every failed automatic session has the same certificate issue.

Keep the charging methods separate

Tell the assessor whether the failed session used automatic Plug & Charge, an app, an RFID card or the charger’s own payment method. Save any authorisation error from the operator. Include whether a permitted manual session on compatible equipment succeeded.

Do not share your charging-account password or payment details with a workshop enquiry. A description of the account state and the error message is normally enough to start the conversation. Use the provider’s own support process for account access or billing problems.

Useful details after recent work

  • The model, year and date of the workshop visit.
  • What work was performed and whether charging settings were reset.
  • The last successful automatic session and the first failed one.
  • Whether the car reports an electrical warning or only an authorisation problem.

Check activation through the official Volvo instructions for the exact vehicle. If electrical warnings remain, or charging fails through every permitted method, include the diagnostic report in an assessment enquiry.

AXION can review a vehicle-electronics or programming request once the symptoms are clear. The service route depends on the fault and access needed. Restoring a charging contract or certificate is different from replacing charging hardware, and both should be identified correctly before costs are agreed.
