CAN receive-buffer overrun can make a recording incomplete

A logger can lose received information when its buffers or software cannot keep up. That is different from proving that the vehicle stopped transmitting.

What to check next

If a trace contains gaps, check the recording tool’s overrun indications alongside the timestamps. Compare the gap with the customer’s symptom and another independent observation. Keep logging limitations explicit in the report rather than filling the missing period with a guessed failure sequence.

Useful information for an enquiry

Preserve the device model, recording settings, file size and any overrun warning.

An incomplete recording may require a better capture plan. It is not sufficient evidence by itself for a network repair or a replacement gateway.
