A receiver can report a consecutive frame when it is no longer expecting the transfer. A restarted session or an incomplete earlier exchange may be relevant.
How to narrow it down
Preserve the traffic before the error and identify the first frame associated with the message. Review whether the tool, interface or ECU reset during the exchange. The timing relationship can distinguish stale or mismatched traffic from a new response.
What to include with the fault report
Include the events before and after any reconnect or reset.
Do not diagnose a module from a single isolated frame. Transport context determines whether that frame is meaningful.
