Prius P0A80 or P0A7F and a blocked battery cooling fan

A dusty hybrid-battery cooling fan is worth recording, but finding dirt does not establish the condition of the battery. This distinction matters when a Prius stores P0A80 or P0A7F.

What the Toyota bulletin actually covers

Toyota T-SB-0153-13 Rev2 describes certain 2004–2009 Prius vehicles with these codes and dust or debris restricting the high-voltage battery cooling fan. The documented repair includes battery replacement as well as cooling-system attention and an intake filter. It is not a promise that cleaning the fan alone will repair the battery. Where the fan is not clogged, Toyota says this particular bulletin does not apply and directs diagnosis through the repair manual. Read Toyota T-SB-0153-13 Rev2.

Avoid applying one bulletin to every hybrid

This reference is a US-market bulletin for the stated Prius generation. A different Toyota, Lexus or later Prius needs its own vehicle-specific information. Its historical warranty terms do not establish UK coverage. The diagnostic report and vehicle identity should come before a decision on replacement parts.

What to include when contacting AXION

  • The model, year and current mileage.
  • The complete scan, including any additional hybrid or cooling codes.
  • When the warning appears and whether performance or displayed charge changes at the same time.
  • Any recent battery, fan or interior-trim work.
  • A description of what has already been inspected, with existing photographs or test records if available.

If another workshop has recommended a battery, ask for the diagnostic findings as well as the quotation. Sharing that information lets us understand what has already been ruled out and discuss the next useful step. There is no need to dismantle a high-voltage assembly to make an enquiry.

AXION supports owners and independent garages with hybrid-system assessment enquiries. Send your existing report through our repair enquiry form, or call 07440 134303. We will confirm whether the vehicle is needed at our Didcot workshop or whether a removed module is suitable for UK postal assessment.
