“No communication with power steering” describes a diagnostic observation. It does not explain whether the controller has lost power, its connection is interrupted or it has developed an internal fault. That distinction matters before a replacement is sourced.
Which 01309 description is stored?
The Ross-Tech J500 reference separates no-communication, implausible-signal and faulty-controller entries. Its no-communication guidance includes wiring and connectors. For certain MK60 brake-electronics reports, it also discusses configuration compatibility between steering assistance and brake electronics.
Use the description from your own scan. Do not apply a coding suggestion from a different system simply because the five-digit number matches.
If the fault followed replacement work
Keep both part identities and the original scan, if available. Tell the workshop whether the original symptom has changed. For example, “assistance was intermittent before replacement; now the warning is permanent” is useful history. It should not be shortened to “new part faulty” without diagnosis.
For a vehicle that has not had parts changed, describe the first warning and any loss of assistance. Include other communication or supply faults, plus the result of existing power and connection checks. There is no need to remove the unit just to photograph a label that is inaccessible.
Booking the right assessment
Steering concerns often need vehicle-side investigation. Explain any heavy, inconsistent or abnormal steering when enquiring, and follow the handbook’s instructions about continued use. An online code guide cannot establish that a vehicle is safe to drive.
