Audi P173500 and P173600 clutch-position faults on 0GC and 0DL

Before ordering a mechatronic repair for P173500 or P173600, identify the gearbox and transmission controller. “Seven-speed DSG” is not enough to select a repair route.

What the Audi reference covers

Audi technical information associates these codes with electrical faults in the position sensing for clutch 1 or clutch 2 on specified 0GC and 0DL applications. The bulletin checks transmission-controller identification against defined conditions before prescribing its repair. A car with a different gearbox or software identification needs its own diagnosis.

The US reference is useful technical context, not confirmation of UK campaign cover or a promise that every A3, S3, RS3 or TT-family vehicle has the same fault.

Send more than the two codes

  • Full code text and any accompanying fault number from the scan.
  • Gearbox identification and transmission-controller part and software details.
  • Which gears or drive modes are unavailable, if this is already known.
  • Whether the complaint happens cold, warm, intermittently or continuously.
  • Previous gearbox, clutch, mechatronic or software work.

Do not deliberately drive a car with unsafe or unpredictable engagement to reproduce the fault. Describe what has already happened and follow the vehicle’s warning instructions. Where it cannot be moved safely, agree recovery with the workshop.

Questions before approving the job

Ask whether the proposal is for diagnosis, a supported electronic repair or replacement of a larger assembly. Establish what findings justify that scope, what installation work is separate and how operation will be checked afterwards. A fault-code match on a parts listing does not answer those questions.

AXION can review a TCU or mechatronic enquiry using the identification and report. Availability, repair scope and any adaptation or programming requirements depend on the actual unit. Keep the original scan and any completed-work reports with the enquiry so a new assessment starts from evidence rather than repeating the parts already tried.
