A basic engine-code reader may not provide the transmission information needed to investigate a gearbox warning. An empty engine fault list does not establish that the gearbox controller has no relevant records.
Identify the scan coverage
Ask which modules were accessed and whether manufacturer-specific transmission data was supported. Preserve the exact dashboard message and driving symptom. Do not keep clearing generic codes in an attempt to expose more information.
Arrange an appropriately scoped diagnostic session before selecting parts. If drive is unreliable, discuss recovery. The workshop should explain what was read and what remains inaccessible so a limited scan result is not misrepresented as a complete assessment of the transmission system.
