CAN resistance measured through a gateway can be misleading

A gateway joins communication paths logically; it does not make every vehicle network one continuous pair of wires. Measurement location matters.

How to narrow it down

Before interpreting a resistance value at the diagnostic socket, identify the bus segment actually reached. Compare that with the module named in the fault. A correct result on one segment cannot clear a separate segment from suspicion, and an unexpected value needs its circuit context.

What to include with the fault report

Include the exact connector pins, shutdown state and wiring diagram reference used for the measurement.

Do not apply one universal resistance target to every vehicle network. Follow the vehicle procedure and never use a resistance meter on an energised circuit.

Speak to AXION

For CAN-bus and vehicle-network diagnostics, send your vehicle details and fault report. Workshop assessment is in Didcot, Oxfordshire. Suitable postal or remote work is confirmed before booking.
