Some EV power-electronics assemblies combine functions within one housing. A parts description such as “charger converter” should therefore be matched to the vehicle’s actual system and the technician’s findings.
What an integrated unit can contain
Bosch’s charger-converter example combines an on-board charger for the high-voltage battery with a DC/DC converter supplying the low-voltage vehicle network. Its documentation also describes possible integration of charging-communication functions. This product example does not establish what is fitted to every make or model.
The distinction matters when explaining a symptom. A charging complaint and a low-voltage supply complaint need their own evidence, even if the relevant functions share an assembly.
Record both sides of the complaint
State whether charging fails on AC, DC or both, using only observations from normal use. Include charger messages, vehicle warnings and the circumstances of failure. If the vehicle has low-voltage warnings as well, add that history and any battery work already performed.
Send the full scan, complete module label and the workshop’s current findings. Mention any replacement charger or converter previously fitted and keep its identification separate from the original unit.
Confirm the next step before removal
A charger-related warning alone is not confirmation that a removed assembly needs repair. Ask what evidence supports the proposed assessment and whether further complete-vehicle diagnosis is required.
