A missing engine-speed reading during cranking is useful evidence only when the tool, data label and test conditions are clear. Record whether the engine physically turns normally and whether the reported value remains zero throughout the attempt.
Identify the data source
Was the reading taken from the engine controller, another module or a generic display? Save the complete code report and any signal measurements already obtained by the garage. A missing displayed value does not, on its own, identify a failed sensor or ECU.
Include recent work
Engine, timing, starter, wiring and sensor repairs can provide important context. Record the exact parts fitted and whether the symptom existed before the work. Do not repeatedly crank a vehicle with an unresolved mechanical concern or use a bypass to force starting.

If the complete vehicle is unavailable, ask what evidence is needed to make a removed-ECU assessment meaningful. Keep the original parts and reports until the repair route is agreed.
