A heat-pump system can operate in different modes, so a changing sound needs its timing and function recorded. A normal mode change and a new harsh mechanical noise should not be treated as the same complaint.
Compare the conditions
Note temperature, humidity, heating performance and any displayed message. Consult the owner’s description where available. Do not reach near moving fans or dismantle equipment to locate the noise.
If the sound is new, severe or accompanied by warnings or poor demisting, request assessment. A safe stationary recording may help. The workshop should relate the sound to the actual operating mode and measurements before recommending a compressor or control-module replacement.
