A lower range estimate on a cold morning can be worrying, especially if it is your first winter with an electric car. The dashboard estimate alone does not establish a failed battery. Begin with the conditions and the vehicle’s actual behaviour.
Compare similar journeys
The US Department of Energy’s cold-weather EV research describes the effect of low temperature and heating demands on performance. The size of the change varies; a percentage from a different vehicle is not a diagnostic limit for yours.
Keep records from comparable journeys: starting charge, distance, outside temperature, heating use and displayed consumption. Note whether the car was preconditioned according to its handbook and whether the route or driving pattern changed. Short cold trips and a long mild-weather journey are not equivalent comparisons.
When the enquiry needs more detail
Include any new warning, charging interruption, sudden change in displayed charge or repeated loss of usable range under similar conditions. Preserve the exact dashboard message and the full diagnostic report if one exists. Do not clear warnings simply to make the range display look normal.
Ask what a proposed battery assessment measures. A range prediction, a battery-management estimate and a controlled capacity assessment are different pieces of evidence. Their interpretation needs the vehicle, software and test conditions. A single screenshot cannot establish which internal component needs repair.
