A complaint isolated to one shift deserves the exact transition and conditions recorded. “The gearbox slips” can otherwise describe several different behaviours that require different tests.
Identify the transition
State the starting and finishing gear if known, vehicle temperature, load and whether the engine speed flares. Include the scan and any previous adaptation or fluid work. Do not repeat harsh tests on the road to produce a dramatic recording.
The technician should assess the relevant mechanical and control evidence. A TCU repair is not established by the symptom alone. Ask the report to describe the shift that was actually tested and whether the original conditions were reproduced before a component recommendation was made.
