Hyundai IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6 and Kia EV6 P1A9096 charging warnings

A large charge reading on the dashboard does not rule out a problem with the car’s low-voltage supply. If an IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6 or EV6 displays an electrical-system warning, record the exact message as well as the traction-battery percentage. They describe different parts of the problem.

What the manufacturer information establishes

Hyundai and Kia have published US campaign information involving the integrated charging control unit, or ICCU. The documented fault can interrupt charging of the 12-volt battery and lead to reduced propulsion. P1A9096 is part of the campaign diagnosis. The prescribed response depends on inspection and software status, rather than the code alone.

Those documents concern specified vehicles in the US. A UK owner should ask the manufacturer to check the VIN for current recalls, campaigns and cover before authorising paid work. The original Hyundai IONIQ hybrid is not the IONIQ 5 or IONIQ 6 covered here.

Put the warning sequence in your enquiry

  • Which warning appeared first, and did the car subsequently lose power or refuse to become ready?
  • Was the car driving, parked or connected to AC or DC charging?
  • Has a dealer already inspected the ICCU, installed an update or replaced a fuse or unit?
  • Is P1A9096 present now or only in an earlier report?

Keep the first scan and the invoice from any previous work. A later scan after codes have been cleared may not show the original sequence. Tell the workshop if the 12-volt battery has been replaced, but do not treat repeated battery replacement as a diagnosis.

Arrange the next step before moving the car

Follow the vehicle’s warning instructions. Stop safely and arrange recovery if the car instructs you to stop or loses propulsion. ICCU and high-voltage fuse work require the relevant training and manufacturer procedures. Do not remove the unit or bypass a fuse to see whether the warning disappears.

Ask AXION about an electrical assessment with the model, year and report attached. We will need to establish the exact unit and available assessment route before a booking or any module dispatch.

Sources and next steps

Send AXION your vehicle and fault details or choose an assessment. Workshop appointments are in Didcot, Oxfordshire. Suitable postal module work is available by arrangement for UK enquiries. Confirm acceptance before dispatch.
