A steering-lock warning with no normal ignition response can prevent the vehicle from being moved safely. Record the exact message and whether the steering remains locked. Avoid forcing the wheel, lock or ignition mechanism.
Describe the sequence
Does the vehicle recognise the key, unlock normally or make a repeated sound before the warning? Include low-voltage incidents and recent column, key or module work. If there is a second authorised key, report its normal-use response without attempting unfamiliar programming procedures.
Ask the recovery operator how the vehicle should be handled if steering is locked. A specialist needs to assess the relevant system and lawful replacement or programming options; disabling a security function is not the diagnostic route. Preserve original parts and provide proof of authority for the job. The warning alone does not establish whether the lock mechanism, supply, recognition process or another controller is responsible.
