A displayed network error counter can help an investigation, but its meaning and reset behaviour depend on the system and tool. A large number is not automatically the identity of the failed module.
Keep the counter’s definition
Save its exact label, reporting controller, timestamp and operating state. Ask whether it counts events, messages or another condition. Compare values only when their definitions and observation periods are compatible.
The workshop should connect counter changes with an actual symptom and supporting electrical evidence. Do not replace whichever controller displays the highest value. It may be reporting problems observed elsewhere. A clear report explains what the count establishes and what additional test is needed to locate the cause.
