You’ve had the sensors changed, the tyre pressures are right, yet the dashboard still shows a warning. Before buying another set, ask what was actually completed: programming the sensors, teaching their identities to the car, or both.
Two jobs that sound similar
Schrader explains that its blank EZ-sensor needs programming with the correct vehicle protocol. Relearning is the vehicle-side process that recognises sensor identities and, where supported, their wheel positions. Programming a sensor successfully does not by itself demonstrate that the vehicle has learnt it. Some replacement sensors arrive configured for a particular application; the required process depends on the sensor and vehicle. Schrader’s programming and relearning guide explains the distinction.
Ask the fitter for the sensor brand and part number, which vehicle application was selected, and the result of the vehicle relearn. That gives the next workshop something useful to work with. A receipt saying only “four valves” leaves several questions unanswered.
What happens at each wheel?
A TPMS tool can help establish which sensors respond. ATEQ notes that available data can include sensor identity, pressure, frequency and other information, with capabilities varying by sensor. Comparing the wheel-side responses with what the vehicle recognises is a useful diagnostic step. ATEQ’s TPMS guidance describes the different relearn routes.
You do not need to remove tyres to make an enquiry. Send the vehicle details, warning message and paperwork from the sensor replacement. Say whether all four readings are missing or just one. If a second wheel set works correctly, mention that too.
