A slow winter charging stop can look like a battery fault, particularly if the same car charged quickly in summer. For the Nissan ARIYA, battery temperature is an important part of that comparison.
Cabin heat and battery heat are different questions
Nissan’s 2024 UK ARIYA manual explains that a cold battery can take longer to charge at a rapid charger. It describes a battery warmer that can operate during rapid charging and, when enabled, while driving. Warming the passenger compartment does not tell you whether that separate battery function was selected.
The same manual notes that the Battery Heater setting turns off when rapid charging finishes or the vehicle is switched off. It also explains that warming while driving uses energy. Check the instructions for your model year rather than assuming a setting stays enabled for every journey.
Compare sessions fairly
Keep the starting battery percentage, outside temperature, time spent parked and journey length before arrival. Add the charging station and the energy delivered over a stated period. A single peak-power photograph leaves out most of the session.
Try to compare like with like. A session starting nearly full is not the same test as one starting at a low charge level. Nor is a cold car that has stood overnight the same starting point as a car already used for a long journey.
When to ask for diagnosis
An unexpected warning, repeated interrupted sessions or a persistent change from the vehicle’s usual behaviour deserves more than an assumption about the weather. Save the message and any diagnostic report. Do not erase the original findings before the workshop has seen them.
For a garage, include any temperature readings already captured and identify where they came from. A dashboard outside-temperature display should not be labelled as a battery temperature measurement.
Contact AXION about an ARIYA charging problem with the year, battery variant and session history. We will discuss the available assessment route. Follow the vehicle’s charging warnings and arrange specialist help if the connector is damaged or the vehicle tells you not to charge.
