In a hybrid enquiry, “the car starts” and “the petrol engine starts” may describe different events. Make that distinction clear when P0A0F appears. A useful report tells the technician what the dashboard, engine and vehicle actually did in order.
The code describes an unsuccessful engine start
Snap-on’s P0A0F entry concerns failure of the engine to start. Read the reference. It does not, on its own, identify the failed component.
Describe the sequence
- Did the READY indication appear?
- Was an engine-start attempt heard or observed?
- Did the engine run briefly before stopping?
- Were there fuel, engine-management or other hybrid warnings as well?
Include recent fuel depletion, engine repairs, storage and battery work in the history. Send scans from the relevant vehicle systems rather than just one powertrain code. If an earlier garage has investigated the engine, retain those findings instead of restarting the enquiry as an assumed battery problem.
Avoid repeated unsuccessful attempts
Follow the handbook’s warning instructions and arrange assistance if the car will not operate normally. Do not keep repeating start attempts to demonstrate the fault or attempt to force engine operation using an unfamiliar service mode.
