A replacement gearbox controller or mechatronic unit may require more than physically fitting the part. For a DSG 0AM enquiry, separate the original diagnosis, replacement compatibility, coding information and required setup work.
Identify the transmission precisely
Ross-Tech’s 0AM documentation explicitly warns that its procedure does not apply to other transmissions, including the longitudinal 0B5. “Seven-speed DSG” is therefore not enough identification for selecting a procedure.
Photograph the controller label and supply the gearbox code, vehicle details and full original scan. Include the reason the original unit was removed and any work on the clutch or transmission.
Preserve the original information
Ross-Tech describes original scan coding as relevant during 0AM replacement. Its basic-setting process also has prerequisites, completion states and subsequent driving requirements. These are separate considerations from copying a coding value. A failed or incomplete setup deserves investigation rather than a claim that repeating a reset will repair the gearbox.
The installation and setup should follow the applicable manufacturer information and supported diagnostic-tool guidance. This article is an enquiry checklist, not a substitute procedure.
What to send AXION
Provide the original and replacement part numbers, the coding record if available, the exact error shown by the tool and the stage at which setup stopped. Say whether the vehicle communicates with the transmission and describe its current behaviour without attempting an unsafe road test.
Discuss the TCU or mechatronic unit before dispatch. Postal electronics assessment and complete-vehicle installation/setup are different parts of the job; agree the scope first.
