An advanced scan tool can display a number without telling you whether the conditions make that number meaningful. Ben Martins’ published Renault Zoe HVAC investigation is a useful reminder. The account belongs to Pico Technology; it is not an AXION repair case.
What made this case difficult?
After an earlier compressor repair, the Zoe developed an abnormal pressure-relief complaint. During investigation, extreme temperature values initially suggested a sensor or wiring problem. The account explains that the HVAC controller could communicate while the sensors were not powered in that vehicle state. Once the state was corrected, the readings changed. Useful questions for a garage referral
Was the car merely unlocked, ignition on, ready, heating, cooling or charging when the data was captured? Which sensor does each value represent, and where is it in the circuit? Keep those details with the recording. A screen full of unexplained numbers is difficult for another technician to interpret.
Record the current symptom separately from any earlier repair. If charging is now normal but cabin heating is not, say that directly. Avoid describing every subsequent problem as a repeat of the original fault until it has been assessed.
What this means for an owner
Tell the workshop when heating or cooling fails and whether the charging behaviour changes at the same time. Leave refrigerant handling and high-voltage work to appropriately qualified personnel.
