How UK garages can refer a complex ECU, TCU or EV fault

A difficult electrical job often reaches a point where the next useful step is a second assessment. The best handover explains what is known, what remains uncertain and the decision the referring garage needs to make.

Put the fault history on one page

Start with the customer’s original complaint and whether you have reproduced it. Give the vehicle identity, mileage and operating conditions. Then list the work already completed in order. Keep confirmed findings separate from suspected causes.

For example, “TCU supply remains stable during the recorded event; output-speed signal drops out” is much more useful than “gearbox ECU suspected”. Use your actual evidence; do not turn an incomplete test into a confirmed result.

Attach the evidence that supports it

  • Complete scan with controller identities and additional fault details.
  • Relevant wiring or supply findings with conditions and measurements.
  • Label photographs, plus original and replacement identities if parts changed.
  • Waveform files or live-data logs with channels and units identified.
  • Programming session reports and the last known working configuration.

Include only the customer information needed to handle the enquiry. Avoid placing security data, access credentials or personal documents in public comments.

Agree the handover before moving the vehicle or module

Ask whether the evidence supports postal module assessment or whether the vehicle is needed. State who will authorise further work and who should receive the findings. Discuss practical arrangements, scope and costs before dispatch; an enquiry is not a confirmed repair booking.

AXION’s workshop is in Didcot, Oxfordshire. Garages in London, the Midlands, northern England, Scotland, Wales and elsewhere in the UK can enquire about suitable postal electronics work or an arranged vehicle assessment. This does not imply local branches or nationwide mobile attendance.

Start a trade electronics enquiry or contact the team. The vehicle and module finder can help organise the starting information.

Use the full fault description from your scan and the repair information for your vehicle.
