Some switching sounds during an EV’s start sequence can be normal. A new repeated clicking sound accompanied by failure to reach READY is a different complaint. Describe when the sound occurs and where it seems to come from, without opening a battery enclosure to investigate it.
Separate one event from repeated attempts
Note whether the sound occurs once on wake-up, continues while the car is stationary, or repeats each time the start command is given. Record the dashboard message, low-voltage battery history and any recent charging difficulty. An audio recording from outside closed components may help if it can be obtained safely.
Sound alone cannot identify a failed contactor or prove a battery needs replacement. The workshop needs the relevant controller information and vehicle-specific start sequence. Avoid repeated start attempts when a serious warning appears, and follow the manufacturer’s recovery instructions if the vehicle cannot enter a usable operating state.
