An electrical warning after striking an object or grounding the vehicle should be reported together with the impact. Even when the car still drives, an external photograph cannot establish the condition of a traction battery, its connections or nearby cooling equipment.
Prioritise a safe assessment
Follow the owner’s instructions for impact or battery warnings. Do not crawl under an unsupported vehicle, touch exposed wiring or attempt to remove covers. Smoke, unusual heat, hissing or a strong unusual smell requires keeping people clear and contacting emergency services where appropriate.
Tell the recovery operator that the vehicle is electric and describe the impact and warnings. For the workshop, record the time, area struck and subsequent charging or driving behaviour without conducting further experiments. Ask where the complete vehicle should be assessed before arranging transport. Posting a removed controller is not a suitable first response to possible underbody battery damage.
